This collection of nine stories is entertaining and also serves as a window into Caribbean culture, more specifically, that of Jamaica.

I recommend this book for ya, 12 and older. Many of the stories portray angst and meanness I do not think would suit a younger set. I felt as if I was getting a glimpse of childhood and young adulthood in rural Jamaica in the first half of the 20th century. Several stories left me wondering what happens next, an unsettled feeling that I didn't really like. The unsettled feeling showed how much I felt for the characters, though, and that's good thing. They made me think of James Baldwin.Becky was my favorite story; All OtherDays my least.

Thief in the village is a book with many short stories in it. I’ve read the entire short stories in the book. I like the most the story that’s called “Becky and the wheel brake boys” it’s a very good book, and I advice everybody to read it. The other short stories are kind of boring because the story may be twenty pages and it talks at the same idea again and again. You should read it and you’ll take the decision of reading it or not. ~ Yasser Al-Ahmadieh
